Indigenous Macaw Bead Earrings - Waurá
Description
Bead earrings made by the indigenous Waurá peoples. They are gorgeous, handcrafted earrings that look wonderful in summer.
Story: The Waurá peoples boast a rich cultural heritage, part of which is a complex, but fascinating, mythical-cosmology. They believe there is a link between animals, innate objects, humans and non-human beings that exist since the beginning of the world. Despite embracing new technologies in recent times, many parts of their traditional culture remain untouched in the day-to-day of the tribes. Beyond its functional aspect for day-to-day life, artisanal crafts are of huge financial significance to the Wauará peoples of the Xingu region. The crafts also act as an important vehicle through which generations pass down their heritage and culture to younger members of the tribe. The shapes used in their crafts contain 5 basic elements: lines, triangles, dots, circles and squares, and their combination forms circa 40 different patterns.
